On short notice, Allen and I planned a day trip to the coast. A day trip. While we can get to the beach in just about 2 hours, we decided to go a little further out of the way to visit a beach we have never been to. The destination we chose ended up adding about one and a half hours each way to our road trip. It was a day trip - with 4 kids.
What a great time we had though. We ended up at Sunset Bay and I could not have imagined a more perfect day at the Oregon coast. The weather was perfect. The water was warm. The sand was sandy. The bay provided a nice area for the kids to play in the ocean without fear of big waves or undertow.
Though we spent a lot of it in the van, our day trip was a great success. As we pulled in to the driveway, nearing midnight, kids asleep - I couldn't help but sing in my head, "We did it, we did it, we did it, hooray!" Darn you Dora the Explorer.
Play hard. Have fun. Honor God.

We LOVE Sunset Bay! Its one of our favorites! We kind of stumbled upon it on our honeymoon and ever since we HAVE to go there, for at least a day, when we visit the coast. In fact, we will be going in October for our anniversary. I hope you guys drove up to the top and got out at the look out, its an amazing view and the waves crashing into the earth seem like they are just inches away from you. Its one of my favorite places in the whole world :)
It was a wonderful day! However next time we may just go to one of the many beautiful lakes in our area and cut 6 hours drive time off our trip.
